Special Master Laura D. Millman to Retire After 28 Years of Service

Special Master Laura D. Millman will be retiring on May 31, 2019, after 28 years of service with the United States Court of Federal Claims Office of Special Masters.

Special Master Millman received a B.A. degree cum laude in English from the City College of New York in 1966 and an M.A. degree in English from Herbert H. Lehman College in 1971. After college, she spent several years teaching high school English in the Bronx.

In 1976, Special Master Millman received a J.D. degree cum laude from the Fordham University School of Law. She then joined the United States Department of Justice as a trial attorney under the Attorney General’s Honors Program. She spent three years in Civil Division, and nine years in the Torts Branch. While in the Torts Branch, she was intimately involved in defending the government in the swine flu cases.

Special Master Millman was appointed as a special master in the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program on April 25, 1991. She has served with distinction in that role since that date, adjudicating more than 1,500 cases, mentoring dozens of law clerks, and becoming (and continuing as) a cherished colleague to her fellow special masters.

The United States Court of Federal Claims commends Special Master Millman for being an exemplary public servant, and a thoughtful, fair, knowledgeable, and compassionate special master. The entire court family wishes her the very best in her retirement.
